Wow! After one hell of a time getting here, it's finallz sinking in that we're here in Berlin. Yesterdaz and the daz before were crazz! We took 2 flights, 2 trains, 1 bus and lots of walking to get to our hostel. Our hostel, by the way, is sooo cute. The people that work here are so nice and helpful. The hostel itself is amazing. Super clean, cute deco and comfortable.
Here's what has gone on so far:
1. The polizei. Apparentlz the police here (polizei) have the legal right to beat the public's a@@ should they feel the need. Yeah, that's how they roll. On our 2nd train trip we got to experience them. The polizei, not the beating of the a@@. Apparently some man was unhappz with something on the train. Their was an argument. Between him and the man that works on the train. In German of course. Which always sounds more heated. So at the next stop, three polizei (they travel in groups here) got on the train. There was some more German talking, then he got escorted off the train. Lesson learned. They're kind of like Texas. Don't mess with 'em.
2. Lots of people speak English. And when thez don't, we say "Nein sprechen zie deutsch." and point to things.
3. Todaz we walked all over Berlin. Not for fun, just in search of food. It's reallz cold and wet here, so walking without a purpose is not so fun. When we finallz made a plan, we went to Madame Toussauds. We got our picture taken with Michael Jackson and Obama. Then when we came out, it was snowing!! Yay!! Or so we thought. My boots were not made for walking. Not in the snow, at least. They were slippery. Then we went to some souvenir shops, the train station and to eat schnitzel. Which was actually bratwurst. Now we're enjoying some Gluhwein that we heated on our radiator and built tiny snowmen.
Here's our crash course in German:
